Dead Sara

From Los Angeles, California comes another rock band… surprised? Me neither; however Dead Sara brings something new to the scene in that you can’t place their genre and they refuse to! Are they metal? Yup. Blues? Sometimes. How about Indy? Of course. Well would you say they are alternative rock? Certainly! In fact, I think they said it best with their latest track, “We Are What You Say!”  The song is actually in response to some professional advice they received to take more of a pop approach if they wanted to get big… So they did pop their own way with their in-your-face ROCK song “We Are What You Say.”

The front-women Emily Armstrong and Siouxsie Medley have been playing together for quite some time, and it pays off. The two dominate the recordings both vocally (Armstrong with Medley’s help) and musically (Medley is the one shredding that poor ax). The fact that they are so solid makes drummer Sean Friday and bassist Chris Null seem almost un-necessary. Of course, the group comes together just fine and the result is something to see and hear!

Dead Sara is releasing its self-titled debut album this spring and promises a showcase of their versatile talent. They hint at an upcoming mix of melodic tunes and intense, mosh-ready anthems. Medley is quoted on their site saying, “That diversity is what’s honest and real to us. We love classic rock, blues, folk, metal, punk, gospel, all of it, so we didn’t want to put restrictions on ourselves genre-wise. We just knew we wanted the music to sound really raw and primal, even a bit unsettling.”

I could go on about Dead Sara, or I could just post their track and let them speak for themselves. If you call yourself a fan of rock music, you will soon be calling yourself a fan of Dead Sara! Since I talked up “We Are What You Say,” check it out below (Hit the play button to be routed to MySpace and hit play again to listen). Or/Also, start the video below for their single, “Weatherman,” that they released on iTunes. It’s a little harder for the true rockers.
